DIY Headboard

Hello, lovelies!

It's a dreary day here in Dallas. The usual bright blue sky is looking pretty white and dreary, which totally foils my plans of making the most of my morning. Instead, I have decided to lounge a little longer. Days like this are perfect for that.

And on that note, the hubs and I have been sleeping quite well lately, thanks to our new headboard. Isn't there something so lovely about new 'bed-stuffs'? To know me, is to know that I need no excuse for slumber. This isn't helping any. Ha!

We made this headboard for about $62. It was simple to make and the end result is really charming. Please forgive the sorry photos. My photography skills are a work-in-progress.

Supplies:
Cheap plywood from Home Depot
Nail gun
Foam/chair pad stuff (technical term)
Fabric
Picture hanger/thingy (Also, technical term)
Brass nail head tacks (11 boxes, at least)
Hammer

Take down your $10 shower curtain because it's cute and cheap and you can buy another one:

Stuff, staple, and look at the cute Beagle:

Place nail head tacks in the foam (no hammer required) and hang on the wall. Admire the awesomeness and go have some wine! (That's what I did.) Sorry for the crap lighting.

Budget Beauty: Ways to spruce up your place on a dime.

When it comes to decorating our apartment, we are on a shoe string budget. Seriously, I can't think of a term better than shoestring. I think it's great though. It really forces me to be creative and sometimes a bit ghetto too. Sure, my sofa needs a facelift, but instead, we are going to call it "rustic chic."

So, I've really been wanting to spruce up the place and thought some cute throw pillows would be an inexpensive way to do it. And then I found some pillows that I loved. And realized that pillows may be cheap for some, but not this broke lady.

I ended up buying this little machine and decided to make my own. For $30 dollars, I have a few cute pillows.

I loved this fabric that I found from World Market. The colors are fabulous and really add a girly touch. Also, you really can't beat the price. It was around $2.99 or so for this napkin/place setting.

I wish I could say that I created this pillows all by myself, but honestly, my husband did it! He's going to kill me for telling the whole world... but my man knows how to sew!

Cute, right?

See the silhouette of the dog? He did that too! It's really great. I can just tell him what I want and he figures out how to do it. I love that man.

Hope you like!

Recipe Reinvention: Healthy Bagel and Lox

The other day, the hubs and I were in need of a light lunch/brunch, especially after totally breaking my own rules and eating red meat. (I'm trying to do fish and veggies 4/7 days)
I present to you, bagel and lox, the healthy version.

Ingredients: Pastrami smoked salmon, avocado, sprouts, chive spread, multi-grain bread, cucumber, onion, olive oil, and spinach.

First things first, toast your bread.

Spread the magic, aka the spread, and then throw on the slices of avocado. I like avocado, so I put a lot.

Next, toss on the onion and cucumber. At this point, I like to do a pinch of sea salt and some freshly ground black pepper.

Add spinach, sprouts (mini plants packed full of healthy stuff), and Pastrami style smoked salmon. You really can use any smoked salmon, but I personally love the seasonings and the extra thin slice.

I also made a salad with the extra cucumber and avocado. I sliced tomatoes, the remaining avocado, onion, lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. So delish.

Glamour shots of the final product...

Hope you enjoy!

Introductions.

Well, dear readers (aka mom and Rachel), Hello!

With encouragement from my very special person/hubs, I present to you my first blog post. I hope to chronicle my life in Dallas, Texas, my time studying interior design, and other things I deem interesting and/or blog-worthy. Which will probably cover things like good food that I made or would like to make, or really pretty rooms and fancy/nice clothes.

I also have a really cute collection of animals that I enjoy talking about. And posting videos of.

But that will come at a later date.

See you soon,

R.
